The chemical odor from the vinyl lining was so strong that I hung the carrier outside for over two weeks before the odor dissipated sufficiently that I felt is was safe to put my small bird into the carrier. <br /> <br />Once that was done, the bird enjoyed being in the carrier as she went for her nails trimming.
